5 Steps To Take Right After You Get Engaged

You're engaged! Congratulations! This is a monumental moment in your life, so soak in all the happiness, love, and feels that come along with saying, "Yes!" to your lifelong partner. If you're now thinking to yourself, "Where do I go from here?", don't worry. As a day-of-wedding coordinator, I'm familiar with the entire wedding planning process.

Read below my top five tips for what to do after your significant other pops the question.

1. Insure your ring

After your fiancé proposes and puts a ring on your finger, make sure to get insurance. You want to cover all your bases in the event your ring gets damaged, stolen, or lost. Find a ring insurance policy that offers financial protection and peace of mind.

2. Create a wedding timeline

First and foremost, you should enjoy the highs of your engagement for as long as you want; don't feel the pressure of planning immediately after your proposal. However, when you're ready, start brainstorming a wedding timeline. Do you want to get married next year? In two years? Three? Decide what works best for you and your significant other.

3. Set a budget

Before you plan, book, or decide on anything, you'll want to have a discussion about finances with your partner and whoever else may be helping with the cost of the wedding. It's important to come to a consensus and set a budget so that you can plan all other parts of your big day accordingly!

4. Source inspiration

This is where the fun comes in! Time to create a Pinterest board, search Instagram, talk to friends and family, recall what you liked and didn't like from weddings you've attended, and get inspired. Your day should be exactly how you want it to be, so start creating a vision for all details— big and small.

5. Pick a date and venue

Step number five: pick a wedding date based on your timeline. Everything revolves around the date of your wedding, so once you have the big day marked on the calendar, you can work back from there. After you have a date set in stone, you can move forward with finding the perfect venue for you, your fiancé, and all your loved ones.
